Day 9 (September 21, 2020)   Breuil-Cervinia

Before

Our visits at Cervinia

This day we'll have to leave Parma to reach Aosta Valley and make our planned visits there, but we could do some visits in the city before leaving.

It's a drive between 3 and 4 hours to the Alps. The idea is making the visits in our list and get good views of Mount Cervino (Matterhorn).

The spots marked at map are:

 0- Hotel Dama Bianca
 1- Breuil-Cervinia
 2- Lake Blu
 3- Caves of Busserailles

After

We wake up early and leave the hotel for a walk, after breakfast, a few minutes after 10 AM. We go to the Duomo Square where we get our first views of the Cathedral and the Baptistery.

We've come with the idea of exploring the interior of the cathedral because it seems it is spectacular and it really doesn't disappoint us.

Walls and ceilings are all covered with beautiful paintings and carvings. We stay a while looking to such amount of art.

We come back to the hotel and we take the road to Aosta Valley, around 11 AM. It's a drive of more than 3.5 hours that we do without any stop, admiring the change in the landscape as we're getting higher in the mountain.

When we arrive at our hotel in Valternouche we find out that there is also a change in the temperature. But we were expecting that already and have our jackets at hand.

It's past 2 PM, so after checking in, we go to look for a place for our lunch. We've been told at the hotel that the restaurants in the town are already closed at this time, so we take the car and keep driving up and stopping at the restaurants we see. We're always getting the same answer: that they're closed. The only place we find where we can get something to eat is a bar where we get some sandwiches by 13€.

Then we go to Breuil-Cervinia, which is where the road ends. There, we walk around alone with the top of the mountains covered with snow.

In our way back down to Valternouche we stop at the path to the Caves of Busserailles, where we pay 2€ for the best surprise of this trip since, even though the black stone walls and the river with clear blue water are already beautiful, at the end of the platform in the cave we find something that we didn't know it was: an amazing waterfall that brings in a lot of water noisily.

It has been a privilege to enjoy such a natural wonder by our own. Excited, we get into the restaurant there to take tea by 6€ in total.

As sky is looking clearer, we go again to Lake Blu and we can see the base of Mount Cervino this time. We'll have a last chance for a better view tomorrow morning

With this, we go to the hotel to rest. We'll go out just one more time at night for dinner, around 8 PM, since we've told that times for dinner here are 7 to 9 PM. We find a beautiful restaurant where we eat beef stew and calamari with seafood by 38€.
