Day 5 (September 17, 2020)   Venice

Before

This is an entire day to explore Venice with focus on the highlights we've put on the map:
Map of Venice
The spots marked at map are:

 0- Hotel Montecarlo
 1- Tronchetto's parking
 2- Saint Mark's Square
 3- Rialto area
 4- Academia's Bridge
 5- Arsenale

After

We leave the hotel around 10:30 AM, after a good breakfast, towards the Doge's Palace where, after waiting just 10 minutes, they check our temperature and we access to the ticket boxes to pay 20€ for each one.

We access to a beautiful courtyard where we follow the signs to go through the different rooms. We start by chambers that are like smaller versions of the Council Chamber, which we reach later, with walls and ceiling fully covered of paintings separated by golden marks.

After that we pass by the armoury, with lots of old weapons on display from the Venetian army. We're surprised by the ancient machine guns.

Then, we can access to the prison through inside of the Bridge of Sighs. This is a gloomy place where is easy to imagine how live was for the ones that ended here.

When we finish this visit in the same courtyard where we started, we go to the entrance of the Basilica of St. Mark just to find a sign saying that it is closed for maintenance. We'll come later, so we take our way to Dorsoduro and leave St. Mark's Square but, before that, we've got the chance of making a picture, that seems to be impossible, of the square with very few people.

We walk with no rushes to the Academy, stopping by some shops and comparing prices, since we've detected they can be very different from one shop to other for the same thing. We pass by the popular theatre La Fenice and Saint Salvador's Church.

We get one of the best views in Venice from the Academia's Bridge. After that, we pay 7.5€ for each ticket for the vaporetto to Arsenale. The vaporetto is the public transport they have here.

We get magnificent views during this trip and, besides, it is saving us a long walk to the Arsenale. We are at Arsenale stop by 2 PM and it's time to start looking for a restaurant.

We make some pictures at Arsenale, looking at the two towers and the lions and walk back a little bit to the restaurant we chose when coming. I order a sirloin and Eva a menu of fusilli with seafood and fried squid. We pay 40€ in total.

We walk to St. Mark's Square from here through the charming and narrow streets which are on the shadow , which is what we're looking for to escape from the heat that is coming from being under the sun.

In our way, we get into Saint Zachary's Church. A quick visit since we don't want to miss our chance of visiting the Basilica of Saint Mark.

When we arrive at the basilica we ask about that maintenance that seems to make it unavailable for visits and it turns out that it is not something of today, it's been like this for months. With this, our only option to see the interior is to pay 5€ for the museum, which is in the upper floor.

Up there we can see the interior and also have access to the terrace, with amazing views of the square. There is where the horses are. The real ones, though, are inside, at the museum.

With this we've finished our list of visits and go to the room for a rest. We only will leave the hotel for a walk at night. We choose for our dinner a pizza in the same place than yesterday, where are awesome.
