Day
2
(October 4, 2022) Cape Town
Before
This day will be entirely dedicated to exploring Cape Town.
Some of the visits in the center could have been done the
previous day and we will probably use the City Sightseeing Bus for
those that are far from the center.
The spots marked at map are:
0- Urban Oasis
1- Castle of Good Hope
2- Long Street
3- Bo-Kaap
4- Victoria Waterfront
5- Table Mountain cableway
6- Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden

After
We leave the apartment around 10AM and have breakfast at the
same place where we ate yesterday: Urban Oasis Eatery, for just under
100R. We then headed out to Long Street stopping by St George's
Cathedral and Greenmarket Square and its market.
We buy tickets for the City Sightseeing Bus at their Long Street
office by 275R each. I ask about the tickets for the funicular, which
they also sell, due to my doubts when seeing that the mountain appears
partially covered, and they advise me to purchase them once there if I
see that the conditions are right.
We got on the bus to get off at its next stop, precisely the one
under Table Mountain, at the cableway terminal. Along the way we pass
by Bo Kaap, the colorful neighborhood that we didn't get to visit
yesterday. As we approach the terminal we have good views that allow us
to see the mountain free of clouds.
We are about 40 minutes in the queue for the ticket box, where
they had already told us that the line of those who already have a
ticket and wait to board is over an hour, but when we access the ticket
boxes that waiting time already exceeds the two hours and we choose to
buy the fast track tickets by 840R each because, if we don't, we'll
spend the whole day here and, furthermore, we think it will be a
similar line at the top to come back. Besides, as the waiting time
increases more people will choose to pay for " jump the queue". Those
tickets give us direct access to board the cableway and enjoy the views
above right away.
The price of the return tickets for the cableway for adults is 395R before 1PM and 340R after.
At the top we make a walk around to access all sides of the
mountain and the views from there. The first ones that catch you at
arrival are those of the city, the ones that can be enjoyed during the
cableway trip.
When we decide we're done, after just under an hour, we skip the
long line for the cableway again with our special tickets and, once
back at the foot of the mountain, board the red bus that is waiting
there.
The bus continues its itinerary to south until it turns to the bays and
beaches at the West of the city and we pass through Camps Bay. I like
what I see and will remember to stop by it one of the days that I have
a car.
We decide to get off at the stop by Hotel Winchester (11) to walk part
of the kilometers-long promenade and find a restaurant. The idea is to
get to the next stop in Green Point (12).
We find a good restaurant, The Hussar Grill, by the sea, with an
amazing two-course menu by 160R. We both order squid strips as starter
and feta cheeseburger for me and chicken with vegetables for Eva as
main, along with a side of mussels to share and drinks, we pay 503R in
total.
After a fantastic food we have a short walk until Green Point
lighthouse, where we wait for the bus for our last stop at V&A
Waterfront.
We explore the most lively place in the city, with many craft shops and restaurants and do some shopping there.
Towards the end of the walk we find a large gift shop where we
buy the souvenirs that we have seen around the city and markets but way
cheaper.
We come back to the bus stop at 6PM just to find out that there
are no more buses today. As this is officially the start of the route,
it is the first to run out of buses in the afternoon.
We solve it by stopping a taxi that charge us just 80R to take us to the apartment.
