Day
13
(October 15, 2022) Return
Before
On our last day we will leave Graskop, perhaps making a
short
visit that we would have missed the day before, towards the
Johannesburg airport.
We have the flight back home at 6:10PM, so we must arrive in
time to return the car and checking in.
We will arrive home the next morning after a connection of
less than three hours at the Istanbul airport.

After
Around 8:30 AM we leave for the main street of Graskop to have
breakfast at the place that we have been recommended. The fog gives a
special atmosphere to the empty streets at this hour.
We leave after a great breakfast for about 200R in total. It is
9 o'clock and we begin at this point our way back home. The idea is to
arrive at the airport before 4 PM, but since it is a long drive and
there are areas with works that force us to make a detour to the
highway to Johannesburg, we are going to go straight without stopping
at the waterfalls that have been recommended to us in the Lagoon Lodge.
We said goodbye to Graskop shortly before 10 AM and we follow
the path pointed by the GPS until we reach the N4 motorway, nearly two
hours later.
The N4 highway actually leads to Pretoria, so about 30 km before
the turnoff to the 12, which is the one that leads to Johannesburg, we
stopped to refuel and stretch our legs at a place called Petroport.
We use the toilet, do some shopping and are surprised to see
that they have buffalos and black rhinos outside. This is the most
endangered species of rhinos.
We have stopped here by chance, after confirming that we did not
have enough gasoline to get to the airport, where we should deliver the
car with a full tank.
When we arrived at the airport shortly after 3 PM, I couldn't
find the way to the gas station they have there and in the end we ended
up delivering the car without filling it up. They tell us it's okay,
but some days later they'll end up charging more than an entire deposit
on my card for this.
We check in the bag and pass the security control. This terminal
is large and we spend time in the shopping area eating and making our
last purchases.
The return flight leaves at the scheduled time and both the
flights and the connection in Istanbul go smoothly without any issues.
In this way we culminate an adventure that we have enjoyed very
much and has left us with the idea that whoever wants to do their first
self drive safari should be in the Kruger, where both the task and the
chance of seeing wild animals is much easier. |
