After
It take us a while to find a place to have breakfast and, when
we do, it is in front of the Nampo metro station and, as we like it, we
decide that it is where we will come tomorrow before taking the subway
to go to the train station.
When we take the metro to go to Haeundae station it is almost
11AM and the ride takes about an hour, after a transfer in Seamyeun.
Once outside we find the heat and a beach atmosphere as we head towards the famous beach along a wide avenue.
The beach is beautiful because of the contrast between the wide
area of sand and the modern buildings and skyscrapers that surround it.
After a while we walk through a small park towards the end of
the beach, where we're expecting to find the Blue Line terminal, since
we want to ride one of their sky capsules: a kind of two-person trams
that travel a stretch of coast slowly.
However, when we arrive we once again face the problem of the
massive mobilization that is happening in the country during these
vacation days and they tell us that all the tickets for the capsules
are sold out for the entire day.
We then head towards the 1000 bus stop, crossing the area of the
three tallest skyscrapers and a beautiful garden with a waterfall. The
ride to the Haedong Yonggungsa temple is about an hour and leaves us in
front of what appears to be a theme park. We have to take the opposite
path, though, to the area of the so-called most beautiful temple in
Korea. As far as I know, at least it is the only temple by the sea.
The entrance is flanked by a row of statues of different idols
on the left and other curious artifacts on the right. The visit is
free, as it is a temple open to worship. As might be expected, it is
crowded and we enter slowly following the line of people who are doing
the same.
We go through the different areas and corners enjoying the beauty and location of this temple, right on the cliff.
Inside the buildings there are different images of Buddha and the ceilings are usually covered by thousands of lanterns.
On the way to the exit we enter a narrow path that leads to an
area with a golden Buddha and the sea. From here, there are stunning
general views of the temple that we have just left.
Once out of the temple we look for a place to eat and end up
buying some wavy strips on a stick that turn out to be fish cake, then
we add a hot dog and a potato spiral to complete our meal. We pay
14,000 won for everything.
It's past 4:30 PM and there is no time for more visits, since it
takes two hours to get to the Samgwangsa temple from here and it would
already be closed and it would be night so we take bus 1001 to the
train station to have an idea of what we will have to do tomorrow. It
takes us an hour and a half to get there.
On the way to the hotel, we get into an area with Chinese
decorations, which later turns out to be full of Uzbek establishments,
a Mongolian restaurant, and some Russian shops.
We walk the rest of the way to the hotel having bought some
snacks and water that we will take to the room, since we will not go
out again. We also get 300,000 won at the first ATM that charges me a
fee since we arrived: 4,000 won.
