Day 6 (September 30, 2023) Busan: Gamcheon Cultural village

Before

Arrival in Busan is scheduled for 11:30 AM. The hotel is located near the metro and train station, which is the way we will leave the city.

The priority is to visit Gamcheon Cultural Village in the afternoon. If there is time we can visit one of the places on our list near the hotel.

Center of Busan

The spots marked at map are:

 0- Central Park Busan Hotel
 1- Busan Tower
 2- Dongmun traditional market
 3- Sky Eye Observatory
 4- Jagalchi market
 5- Gamcheon Cultural village

After

We have breakfast at the hotel buffet and at 8:30 AM we are ready for the taxi to the airport, which leaves us there immediately, given the proximity.

Check-in is also quick, but this is the first time they take us to a screen where we can see suitcases passing by to make sure ours are coming on our plane: if we see them passing we leave and, if not, we have to tell to the lady that has taken us here. They take a little while but when we see them pass by we go to the boarding gate.

The flight is less than one hour, so we quickly reach Busan. We took a taxi, which charge us 44,000 won to drop us off at our hotel. Surprisingly, although it is not even noon and check in is at 3pm, they give us the room.

We leave for a nearby bus stop since, finally, we are going to use the Tmoney cards that we bought in Seoul for public transportation. We get on the 134, get off where the app tells us and go up to Seogu2-2 that ends at Gamcheon cultural village: our visit of the day.

As soon as we arrive we see people gathered on a balcony down the street taking photos of the views and we join them. A little further down is the information office where they tell us the recommended route and we go back to the starting point since it is through another street.

It is crowded, mostly locals, I suppose because of the holidays that started a couple of days ago. The entire street is full of shops and food stalls that we will check out in our way back.

We follow the picturesque street, with different beautiful corners and murals. All very colorful. The photo with the figure of The Little Prince and the Fox has a cost in time, since the queue is several dozen meters long, so we pass by and continue to an area with viewpoints and where the road goes down.

Shortly before there is a restaurant where we're going to eat. It is labelled as Irish food and they have fish&ships, burgers, etc... We order two spaghetti with tomato that turn out to be more of the style here: a kind of noodles with tomato, chicken and bacon. Different than expected but also good. We pay 10,000 won each (about €7).

I go down the road mentioned before in search of a better view that I can't find, although there are some points for pictures, and I go back up.

This time we went down by feeling. The idea is to go to the Jagalchi market and we are in the area. We enter a very lively street with many food stalls. When we turn towards the market we see that there is hardly any life. They must be closing, so we return to the area from before.

We walk on through the lively streets until we end up, at night, in a crowded area that we join, enjoying the street food. The product offering is overwhelming.

Later we realize that all the stalls are labelled as Busan International Film Festival. It seems to be an area dedicated to the film festival that is held every year in this city. Furthermore, it is not just the stalls, but the illuminated frames under which we are passing also say it and a film strip is drawn on the ground throughout the itinerary.

We go on through this market, following the direction to the hotel, but there is no end: the stalls continue incessantly, of all kinds. We see a lot of supply of branded Tshirts and sweatshirts (Patagonia, Nike, North Face...) that must be fake since they are just 10,000 won. Almost everything is at that price in this area.

When we leave the market behind, continuing towards the hotel, we are carrying our bags with purchases and we have the illuminated Busan Tower as a reference. We get our room and don't leave it until tomorrow with the feeling of having walked many kilometers.
