Day 2 (August 26, 2025) Iquitos

Before

We will leave the hotel with enough time to go to the airport for our 11:40 a.m. flight to Iquitos. We will leave our luggage at the hotel so we only take our backpacks to the Amazon.

The arrival in Iquitos is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., so after checking in at our accommodation in Casa Morey, we will choose a place to have lunch. We will spend the rest of the day visiting the points of interest, which are nearby.

We go down for breakfast as soon as they open, at 6:30 AM, since we have been awake since 4 AM. due to jet lag. So we are more than ready when the scheduled taxi to the airport arrives at 8:30 AM. Our flight to Iquitos departs at the scheduled time, 11:30 AM, and arrives about 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

As we leave the small terminal of the Iquitos airport, the hotel’s taxi is waiting for us, and we arrive there around 2 PM. The Casa Morey hotel is in an old colonial house, and our room feels more like an apartment, with two bedrooms and three beds, high ceilings, a small kitchen and classic-style furnishings.

We decide to head right away to the viewpoint next to the hotel with an old-style boat, although since it is the dry season the river here is almost gone.

Then we go to the Plaza de Armas, and head to the Muyuna office to discuss the details of the tour that starts tomorrow.

We have lunch in the area around 4 PM and continue discovering Peruvian cuisine. A chicken causa and cecina tequeños for me, and a paiche dish for Eva. Everything is delicious. The sauces are new to us and pair perfectly with each food. Eva’s opinion of Peruvian cuisine has gone from 0 to 100 in the 24 hours we have been in the country.

We head back to the hotel to rest and we won’t go out again, since it gets dark shortly after. We also don’t end up using the pool because jet lag is knocking at the door and, although we try to resist, it has us asleep before 7 PM.
